No matter how you spell Zhoug, you’re going to love my favorite Middle Eastern green Zhoug recipe. Possibly you’ve heard of this via Pinterest labeled as “Trader joes zhoug sauce recipes” as this is a popular sauce they sell there. This was news to me until I began researching how I wanted to write this post. Using keywords is a way for me to make my blog posts more findable, so I’m happy you’re here! If you’re not familiar with zhoug, it’s helpful to know it can be made and spelled in many different ways. A few ways Zhoug may be spelled are: Zhoug, Zhug, or Schug, with the last being how it would be pronounced.

How To Make This Easy Zhoug Recipe
PREP: Prep your herbs and produce by giving them a good wash. For this zhoug recipe, it’s not necessary for them to be completely dry, but do lightly dry them with a paper towel or clean cloth to remove excess water. Follow by peeling your garlic and deseeding your jalapeno.
PULSE: Pulse your ingredients in your food processor with the garlic and jalapeno at the base and follow with your herbs and then your remaining ingredients. Pulse until fully combined. If you would like this to be more like the cava schug recipe that is fully blended & smooth you may also use a blender.
PORTION OR SERVE: When I make any sauce recipes, I like to freeze them so that I can use them at a later date. A mistake I often see being made is the freezing of the entire container. In order to enjoy the sauce over time, it’s helpful to freeze it into the portion size you will enjoy it at!

How To Use This Zhoug Recipe
Using this green sauce is an easy thing to add into an array of cuisines. While it’s technically Middle Eastern, it pairs beautifully with an array of cuisines such as Latin flavors, and even hearty soups such as my roasted red pepper soup or this dairy free potato soup or even this dairy free white bean chili!
Vegan Mushroom Soup: Add this Zhoug green sauce into your soup for added flavor.
Other ways I love using this green zhoug sauce is on breakfast options such as toast with eggs, my healthy gluten free fried chicken, and fresh avocado. No matter how you enjoy it, it’s the perfect green sauce recipe to make ahead of time to share and enjoy!
